52 000 euros for water technology research

The KAUTE Foundation and Erkki Paasikivi Foundation awarded a total of €52,000 in research grants for water technology in 2024 to four researchers.

By the deadline, a total of 10 applications were submitted. This year, four grants were awarded—two funded by the KAUTE Foundation's Niilo V. and Lauri N. Santasalo Fund and two by the Erkki Paasikivi Foundation.

The application process was revised this year, which was reflected in the number of applications. “We added a few preliminary questions to the application to better identify the most suitable submissions, saving time for both applicants and reviewers,” explains Tuomas Olkku, Executive Director of the KAUTE Foundation. The applications were of high quality and a pleasure to review.

The grants were awarded to the following researchers:

  • Japheth Kibet Koros: Enhancing Local-Level Participation for Accelerated Water and Sanitation Access in Services: A Case Study of Kenya (Tampere University)
  • Jennyffer Stefania Quimbayo Martinez: Synthesis and characterization of photocatalyst for water treatment application (University of Oulu)
  • Mahdiyeh Mohammadzadeh: Water treatment (University of Oulu)
  • Arto Suominen: No One Left Behind; Property-Specific Water Services (Tampere University)

The next call for research grant applications in water technology will take place in autumn 2025.
